Rebecca Storm is special guest at Defence Forces concert
Brigadier General Kieran Brennan, the general officer commanding of the 1st Brigade, announced details of the event at Collins Barracks yesterday.
The military band of the 1st Bridade, under the baton of Captain Brian Prendergast, will perform along with musicians from other Defence Forces military bands, as well as pipers from throughout the Defence Forces, on the City Hall stage on February 27.
The annual event has become one of the highlights in the city’s annual musical calendar, with the proceeds of the concert going to the Defence Forces Benevolent Fund.
However, this year, thanks to sponsorship from Ford Ireland, Brig Gen Brennan said he was delighted that Ms Storm would perform with the combined bands.
Ms Storm, who lives in Co Kildare, is one of the biggest names in international musical theatre.
She became famous around the world in the 1980s for her role as Mrs Johnstone in the smash Willy Russell musical Blood Brothers.
Throughout her career she has played some of the most demanding roles for a leading lady including Eva Peron in Evita, Fantine in Les Misérables, Florence in Chess, Rose in Aspects of Love, Edith Piaf in Piaf, and Joan of Arc in Jeanne.
She sung for the King of Norway at his coronation in 1991 and has performed numerous times for the British royal gamily. She has also performed on the Opera House stage on several occasions.
Tickets for the Massed Bands concert will go on sale in Merchants Quay Shopping Centre on Saturday where members of the band of 1st Brigade will perform.
